The natural links are definitely the safest method of link building for search engines because they are based on quality of the content or ressources. If you launch a new website, a good strategy to get links is to submit it to web directories. Try to do not have more than 15% of your overall links coming from directories and do not use paid ones. Directories will give organic links at a natural speed of growth which will be very effective.
Linkbaiting, or link bait, is not an easy way to get links and needs experience and creativity but it is worth every effort. Linkbaiting refers to content, videos, images or anything on your site that is created with the intention of increasing links to it with the help of social media and social bookmarking. Linkbaiting is very effective and has only positive effects for search engines since all links generated look natural.
Paid links, or paying for links, can have great short-term search benefits but not really for a long term vision. Paid links are good mainly for websites that have been well established for years and have tons of pages with content but not recommended for new sites. It is not recommended to use this type of links, providers are known by search engines, but you can use it at your own risk.
Bad links are underestimate factors in rankings. Bad neighborhoods will affect indeed your search engine positions. It’s depend almost of the amount of this kind of links, a small amount of them would not trigger a penalty. I hope these advices help you in your link building strategy.
